Irish and Longhorn Cheerleaders for Hurricanes

December 1, 2016

Things happen when they are supposed to happen.  Enrique Reyes and I finally had our first Academic Excellence Fellowship on November 30.   Both of us are alumni of Sam Houston High.  Both of us are graduates of America’s Best Colleges (“Go Irish” – “Hook ‘em Horns”).  In his first year with Teach For America, Enrique teaches science at our high school alma mater.  He recognizes students in his freshmen class who are assets to be developed as applicants to Tier 1 Universities.   He mentioned that he appreciates what I do as a cheerleader for high-achieving students.  I told him that his presence at Sam Houston is yet another answer to my prayer of witnessing young people from my community going to America’s Best Colleges and returning to guide others behind them to similar destinations.
